Swiss watchmaker Swatch has announced a new smartwatch, the Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar, which is expected to stand out as a hybrid. In addition to using the energy of a normal battery, it also uses energy obtained from sunlight. Solar energy gives the device an extended battery life, which can last up to six months.
Sports smartwatch is among the best cost vs benefit options on the market today
Like many of the smartwatches available on the market today, Watch's Tissot T-Touch Connect Solar can be connected to a smartphone. The watch offers the functions normally found on a smartwatch, such as notifications and physical exercise tracking.
Another detail is that it makes use of Swatch's proprietary technology dubbed 'Swiss Autonomous Low Power System' (SwALPS). The company also promises support for GPS navigation, but specific details have not been released.
The new smartwatch has a circular body with a diameter of 47mm, which can bother those who don't like very large watches. The watch body is made of titanium or ceramic. It is compatible with iOS, Android and Huawei's HarmonyOS – which should help to popularize it in China.
Swatch recently saw its revenue drop and the Apple Watch's strong presence in the market was one reason for that. The new smartwatch may be an effort by the company to try to expand its presence in this segment.
The Solar Swatch Tissot T-Touch Connect hybrid smartwatch will be available in June or July costing the equivalent of $ 1,000. This price is considerably higher compared to the prices of smartwatches from other competitors such as Apple, Xiaomi and Huawei.
