Qualcomm has finally unveiled its 2020 flagships that bring 5G connectivity: the Snapdragon 865, 765 and 765G. The first option reaches the premium sector, while the 700 series is presented as more affordable options.
The Snapdragon 865 features the world's most advanced 5G platform Snapdragon X55 5G RF modem system, according to Qualcomm. So it promises to bring "unparalleled" performance jumps and connectivity to next-generation flagship smartphones. To be more exact, 2x better than the Snapdragon 855 and, according to the company, 3x better than its competitors.
The Snapdragon X55 modem is compatible with LTE, 3G and 2G networks and supports the mmWave and sub-6GHz bands. As mentioned at the beginning of the SnapdragonSummit broadcast, 5G is designed to work on the existing spectrum and, unlike what was imagined at the beginning of the 5G discussions, will coexist with previous standards.
Snapdragon 765 / 765G is the hope of more affordable 5G smartphones next year. They bring the integrated 5G connectivity, advanced AI processing and select experiences of Snapdragon Elite Gaming. The "G" of the second SoC mentioned makes it clear that new options for gamers will be coming soon, and Qualcomm also says that with them, features of the desktop experience will be present in future phones. Qualcomm says its new 700 Series chipsets come with specifications that don't even exist on premium chipsets from other companies.
More information about Qualcomm's new SoCs is expected to come during the broadcast of the second day of SnapdragonSummit, tomorrow, the 4th.
