New vehicle sales in the country were the highest since 2014, up 8.7% in 2019 compared to 2018, according to a report by the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave).
According to the dealership association, 2.78 million cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses were sold in Brazil during 2019. In 2018, this number was 2.56 million. It is the third consecutive year of high.
In December last year were 262,737 units, growth of 12% compared to the same month of 2018.
In 2014, 3.49 million new vehicles were sold in the country. The year in which the auto industry sold the most in Brazil was 2012, with 3.80 million.
Among the bikes, the high was higher: 14.6%. In all, 1,077,553 motorcycles were sold, against 940,394 in 2018.
Lower interest rates and falling unemployment
In a statement, Fenabrave President Alarico Assumpção said the "positive performance is due to some economic factors, such as lower interest rates and falling default and unemployment rates."
The organization expects growth of 9.67% in 2020, including cars, motorcycles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses and road implements.
