Another Xiaomi smartphone caught fire in China. According to Song Yujie, resident of Zhoukou, Henan Province, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro that he bought for his father caught fire “out of nowhere”. The device was just over three months old.
Fact happened to an Indian customer who bought the device at Flipkart store
He notified Xiaomi on November 27 about the incident. The device was purchased in July at Xiaomi Mall in China. In her report, Yujie confirmed that the device was kept in a cover and her father used it to watch videos.
His sleep was abruptly interrupted by the smell of something burning. Desperate, he saw that his phone was on fire. Fortunately there was no extensive damage except for a charred device, burns on the cover and a minor burn on Song Yujie's father while trying to put out the fire. He shared a photo showing how the smartphone looked after it happened:
A Xiaomi spokesman said the incident was caused by “external factors” rather than smartphone quality issues. This is the second case of burning a Xiaomi smartphone. A month-old Redmi Note 7S caught fire in India also in November.
Xiaomi's response to the incident with the device purchased by Chavhan Ishwar was similar – the problem was caused by external factors. Ishwar bought the device on October 1 and the device was delivered on the 3rd. The smartphone was operating normally until November 2, when it also caught fire “out of nowhere”.
According to him, the Redmi Note 7S was left on the table while working. Suddenly Ishwar began to smell the burn in his office and that's when he saw that the problem was with his smartphone. The transparent cover was already melting and the device was very hot. According to his report, he was not being charged and the device had never been dropped on the floor either. As expected, he contacted an authorized Xiaomi store in Thane, but it was difficult to extract his SIM chip because of damage to the device. He also shared photos of the device after the incident:
